Sacremento, CA, January 26 — On a recent trip to the state’s capital, Democratic candidate Jay Chen earned yet another endorsement in his bid for California’s 39th congressional seat. Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva – whose district includes Fullerton, Buena Park, and Anaheim – threw her support behind Chen as he continues to pick up steam in the race to become the Democratic nominee.
“I am so proud to endorse Jay Chen,” Quirk-Silva said. “Over the years, he has shown that he wants to stand up for our communities. He is former trustee of an elementary school district, and is also a current trustee at Mt. San Antonio College. He is also raising two young boys in our community…we are really excited that he’s thrown his name in.”
In response to Quirk-Silva’s endorsement, Chen said, “I’m so grateful for Sharon’s endorsement and her support.” When asked about his motivation for running, Chen added, “People in the 39th district just have not been heard. There’s a lot of things happening in Washington D.C. that we’re not happy about, and there’s no accountability. So I’m running to restore honesty and integrity to Washington—and to make sure that a true stakeholder and voice of the 39th will represent us there.”
Both Chen and Quirk-Silva’s comments highlight a key strength Chen has in the wide field of candidates: his longstanding residence in and commitment to CD39. Chen has lived there since 1988, and has well-established ties to the district not only through the local offices he’s held, but through his engagement as a community member.
Quirk-Silva’s support comes on the heels of several other recent endorsements Chen has received, including the API Legislative Caucus, Stonewall Democrats, and Independent Julio Castañeda. In a dramatic move earlier this week, Castañeda backed Chen at the candidate forum for those running in CD39. Barely two weeks into his bid for Congress, Chen continues to gain momentum as important party leaders and independents alike declare their support for his campaign.
Concluded her remarks, Quirk-Silva said, “I’m proud to endorse Jay Chen, and I encourage everybody to get out there and make their voices heard for Jay Chen in the 39th District.”
