Jay Chen wins over 47% of endorsement vote in field of seven Democrats, cementing his position as the leading Democratic candidate for the 39th Congressional District.

In a stunning move, Mt. San Antonio College Trustee and Navy Reservist Jay Chen dominated the Democratic pre-endorsement caucus Saturday afternoon by winning over 47% of the vote, despite competing in a crowded field of seven Democratic candidates.

Although he entered the race for Congressional District 39 only two weeks ago, Chen was able to secure nearly half of all delegates in a very short time. The next highest vote total was 28%. Four candidates, including lottery winner Gil Cisneros, insurance executive Andy Thornburn, and Dr. Mai-Khanh Tran, received 2 or fewer votes total.

“It’s an honor to have such a strong showing in the Democratic caucus, and I’m grateful to the Democrats who have placed their faith in my candidacy. We have a long road to the June election but this win helps bring clarity to the crowded race.”

The win at the caucus caps off a successful week for Jay Chen, during which he also won the endorsement of the Stonewall Democratic Club, independent candidate Julio Castaneda, Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, and the Asian Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus.
