As Fmr. Incumbent is Nominated to Biden Admin, Electeds Line Up Behind Jay Chen
HACIENDA HEIGHTS, CA – The campaign of Lt. Commander Jay Chen, Democrat running for Congress in CA-39, announced today the endorsement of Representative Grace Napolitano (CA-32). Congresswoman Napolitano represents the district immediately to the north of CA-39, and has long been a respected leader within the community, having served in Congress since 1999.
“In the many years I have known Jay Chen, I have known him to be a passionate advocate for his community.” said Rep. Napolitano. “The 39th deserve a Representative in Congress who will put disagreements aside, and get the job done. As president of the Board of Trustees at MT. SAC, a community college both of our districts share, Lt. Commander Jay Chen is overseeing the largest infrastructure project in the region and the construction of a desperately needed transit hub. Jay understands what our communities need and I am confident he will deliver for the people of the 39th. I am proud to endorse him.”
Napolitano is best known for her trailblazing work on mental health. As the founder and co-chair of the Congressional Mental Health Caucus, she is widely recognized for having secured mental health parity in the Affordable Care Act.
“I am so proud to gain the support of Representative Napolitano. I have long looked up to the Congresswoman for her leadership, commitment to our community, and her groundbreaking work on mental health.” said Lt. Commander Jay Chen. “In Congress I will fight to expand access to affordable health care sono family ever has to choose between paying for a medical bill or putting food on the table. This includes expanding mental health services and Congresswoman Napolitano is someone I envision working closely with to complete that vision.”
Representative Napolitano’s support comes on the heels of public support from Representative Ted Lieu (CA-33), California State Controller Betty Yee, Former California State Treasurer John Chiang, Assemblymember David Chiu, Los Angeles County Assessor Jeffrey Prang, and dozens of local electeds.
California’s 39th Congressional District, split between Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino Counties, is one of the most competitive districts in the country. President Joe Biden won the district by an overwhelming ten points and it is currently represented by extreme Republican Young Kim, who won the seat in 2020 with a slim 4109 vote margin.
