HACIENDA HEIGHTS, CA – Support for Lt. Commander Jay Chen’s run for congress in California’s 39th district, and DCCC battleground seat, continues to gain momentum after Chen’s impressive quarter one fundraising report. Today Representative Ted Lieu (CA-33) announced his endorsement of Chen’s campaign. This follows yesterday’s news that Fmr. Congressman Gil Cisneros for CA-39 has been nominated by the Biden Administration, clarifying the 2022 field for this seat.
“I am happy to endorse Jay Chen for Congress,”said Representative Ted Lieu. “Eleven years ago, I had the honor of swearing Jay into the U.S. Naval Reserves, where he is now a Lt. Commander. I have been continually impressed by Jay’s commitment to service, not only as an intelligence officer deployed in the middle east, but especially in his home district where he was twice elected to the school board and currently serves as the President of the Board of Trustees at Mt. SAC community college. I know Jay will work tirelessly to find pragmatic solutions to improve the lives of working families in California’s 39th district.”
“Congressman Lieu is a true leader in Congress and in the communities he represents. I am deeply grateful for his endorsement,” said Lt. Commander Jay Chen. “I’m running for Congress because we need more principled leaders like Rep. Lieu who are dedicated to making government work for the people again. In the military we believe in service, hard work, and giving back to the community. I can’t wait to work with Representative Lieu and other veterans in Congress to deliver for the people of California and the United States.”
Representative Lieu’s support comes on the heels of public support from California State Controller Betty Yee, Former California State Treasurer John Chiang, Assemblymember David Chiu, Los Angeles County Assessor Jeffrey Prang, and dozens of local electeds.
California’s 39th Congressional District, split between Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino Counties, is one of the most competitive districts in the country. President Joe Biden won the district by an overwhelming ten points and it is currently represented by extreme Republican Young Kim, who won the seat in 2020 with a slim 4109 vote margin.
