FULLERTON, CA – Today, Navy Veteran Jay Chen, a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy Reserves and Candidate for Congress in California’s new 45th Congressional District, will report raising more than $323,000 in the 4th quarter of 2021 bringing his cash reserves to nearly a million dollars to kick off 2022. Since launching the campaign in early 2021, Chen for Congress has raised over 1.4 million dollars, shattering records for a Democratic Challenger in Orange County.
News of Chen’s success has led prognosticators to label this Biden +6 seat a “Toss Up.”
Nathan Gonzales of Roll Call writes, “Given the presidential lean and Democrats’ credible candidate [Chen], this seat could host one of the most competitive races in the country. Initial rating: Toss-up”
The Cook Political Report rates CA-45 as one of only six Republican-held toss up seats nationwide.
“I am deeply encouraged by the overwhelming support the community has provided this campaign,” expressed Jay Chen. “Michelle Steel has failed to meet the needs of Californians. In her first few months in office, Steel voted against holding anyone accountable for the attack on our Capitol and voted against bringing critical funds back to the district. As the pandemic raged on, Steel wasted away an entire summer defending her dear friend and radical extremist Larry Elder before CA-45 rejected the recall by 7%.”
“I know voters will elect a representative who stands with the people of this district, not party leaders or special interests.” Chen continued, “It’s why I am so proud to have received nearly 20,000 individual contributions.”
