GARDEN GROVE, CA – With just over 100 days left until the election, Lt. Commander Jay Chen (res.) has overtaken Republican Michelle Steel in the Cash on Hand race in California’s 45th Congressional District. After accounting for unpaid debts, Steel enters the final full quarter of the race with $1,989,284 while Jay clocks in over $100,000 higher at $2,090,710, a sign of the incredible momentum he has gained in the last few months compared to scandal-ridden Steel.

Congresswoman Steel continues to take in cash from unsavory figures in an attempt to keep up with Chen’s rising star. After betraying her constituents and voting against the Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act, Steel accepted another $1000 from Exxon Mobil, $1000 from the Association of Oil Pipelines PAC, $1000 from PG&E, and $2500 from Phillips 66.

Additionally, Steel’s report disclosed another $2500 from Honeywell International, a corporate polluter on the Environmental Protection Agency’s watchlist for devastating water districts with cancer-causing chemicals called PFAS. Steel voted against holding PFAS polluters like Honeywell International accountable and has been rewarded with $10,000 from the corporation.

“While hard-working Americans struggle to make ends meet, Steel has been raking in the cash from oil, gas, and chemical companies while turning a blind eye to the health and well-being of her constituents,” said Jay Chen. “The swell of grassroots support our campaign has received in the last three months show that the voters in California’s 45th want a representative that will represent everyone, not just corporate interests.”
