FULLERTON, CA –  Yesterday Congresswoman Michelle Steel released a statement taking credit for more than $8 million secured in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act for the dredging of Newport Harbor. Only thing is, Congresswoman Steel vehemently opposed the bill and voted against it.

In her recent press statement Steel publicized the following praise:

“The $8.3 million funding allocation for Newport Harbor dredging in the infrastructure bill is excellent news for the City of Newport Beach… We are grateful for the efforts of Congresswoman Steel and our federal partners for securing these much-needed funds.”

Not only did Steel fail to clarify that she voted against the funding, she went a step further and publicized the undeserved praise to deceive voters.

Navy Veteran Jay Chen, Candidate for Congress in California’s 45th Congressional District released the following statement in response.

“Funds secured by the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act are repairing our roads and bridges, creating good jobs, boosting the economy, and soon they will be helping to dredge Newport Harbor. No thanks to Michelle Steel, Californians’ have a lot to look forward to.””

Chen continued, “It is disappointing to watch Steel stand in the way of practical bipartisan legislation and then try to take credit for it, but it’s what we have come to expect from her. In Congress I will work with both parties to create jobs and help our community. “
