GARDEN GROVE, CA – Today, Lt. Commander (res.) Jay Chen, the Democratic candidate for California’s 45th Congressional District, announced that he has raised over $980,000 in Q2 of 2022, reinforcing California 45th as one of the most competitive congressional districts this cycle. Chen’s campaign has received support from 21,358 individual donors, with an average donation amount of just $72. With more than $2,100,000 in the bank, Chen has separated himself as one of the top Congressional candidates in the entire nation, and is well-positioned to flip this top targeted seat.
“This outpouring of support for Lieutenant Commander Jay Chen’s campaign shows a desire there is an appetite for a service leader like Jay, who has a proven record of putting people over partisan politics,” said Campaign Manager Lindsay Barnes. “The 45th District is tired of Congresswoman Steel repeatedly toeing the party line and bringing scandal and controversy to the district. Steel has voted with her party leaders 96% of the time.”
CA-45 is a new swing seat with a 5% Democratic registration advantage. The district voted for Biden by 6.2%, Clinton by 13.2%, and against the Recall of Governor Newsom by 7%. The district is 37% Asian American with significant Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Filipino and Indian populations. Latino voters make up 23% of this Southern California congressional seat. This district is primed to support a strong Democratic challenger like Lt. Commander (res.) Jay Chen.
