GARDEN GROVE, CA – Amidst the backdrop of a 10-year-old rape victim forced to travel from Ohio to Indiana in order to obtain an abortion, Congresswoman Michelle Steel reminded voters once again of her extremist views on abortion by voting against H.R.8297, a bill that will protect the right to seek abortions outside of a home state, and the Women’s Health Protection Act of 2022 that would protect a woman’s right to access abortion.

Rep. Steel supports making abortion and birth control illegal nationwide and refused to tell voters whether she believes there should even be exceptions for rape. Steel was among the cohort that signed a letter asking the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade. She will join with those in her party trying to pass a national law making abortion illegal in all circumstances, including if the pregnancy risks the woman’s life.

“While Californians worry that their daughters may soon live in a reality where they cannot access an abortion even in the case of rape, Michelle Steel chooses to put personal political ideology over the wishes of her constituents,” said Lt. Commander (res.) Jay Chen. “Voters in California’s 45th overwhelmingly support the right to choose and should know that when elected, I will proudly fight to protect their right to govern their own body.”
